EBU Folk Music Festival

In 2016 from 28 to 31 July the EBU Folk Festival was held in Viljandi (Estonia) together with local “Festival of folk music in Viljandi”. Ukrainian Radio broadcasted live-live the Opening Ceremony of the Festival featuring concerts by famous Estonian folk artists – Mari Kalkun, Tuulikki Bartosil, Ramo Teder, Maarja Nuut and the Trad.Attack! band, as well as showing the speeches by the President of Estonia, the CEO of Estonian Public Broadcasting, the Euroradio Head of Music and the Mayor of Viljandi.

In 2016 the “HulyaiHorod” folk band fired the Estonian nights!

The EBU Folk Music Festival is held annually. On-stage performances plus numerous live and deferred broadcasts all around Europe give every EBU Member organization a unique opportunity to introduce its country’s original folklore melodies, colourful traditions and never-to-be-forgotten atmosphere to the whole continent. Since 1999, Ukrainian Radio has been frequent participant of the EBU Folk Festival representing popular folk ensembles and soloists of Ukraine:  a bandura player Vasyl Nechepa, Orest Khoma and Inesa Bratushchyk, Bandura players Trio of Ukrainian Radio, ensemble "Kralytsya".

In May 2013 the EBU Folk Festival took place in sunny Varna, Bulgaria. National Radio Company of Ukraine was presented by folk band "Veseli Vujky" whose brilliant  performance and artistry have captivated the European audience.

    

And in 2014 in the north of Europe at Rattvik (Sweden) the public enjoyed the performance of Folknery band.

  

In 2015 Ukrainian Radio was successfully presented by ethno-rock band “TaRuta”
