"The priority task for 2016 is to renew the potential of our anti-air defense and our Air Force. This relates both to modernizing and purchasing new aircraft, so surely this will relate to modernizing and purchasing new anti-air defense systems that will totally protect our country from the air attacks," said Turchynov. NSDC Secretary noted that the Ukrainian anti-air defense had been destroyed for many years, in particular under guidance of the Russian Federation. According to the official, this has led to the situation when "we face real and serious issues with providing protection for the entire length of Ukrainian-Russian border and for the country as a whole." Turchynov also said that in the context of strengthening anti-air defense the military carefully analyze operations in Syria where Russia carries out air strike campaign.
