President declares 2016 the year of English language

According to the decree, Poroshenko passed this decision “taking into account a role of English as the language of international communication, in order to facilitate learning of English to widen citizens' access to the world's economic, social, educational and cultural opportunities, to ensure Ukraine's integration into European political, economic, scientific and educational sector, in support of the Go Global, which defines learning English a priority of the development strategy." Thus, the Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to develop a complex of measures for 2016 and the following years aimed at promoting English language studies in Ukraine. In particular, the government is to organize English language courses colleges and assist in expansion of subjects taught in English at universities. English language competitions, wider student exchange with foreign schools and colleges are planned. The President also ordered that Ukrainian schools take active part in the European Union programme "E-Twinning Plus."
