The citizens who want to replace their paper passports with ID cards, should wait till the proper bill is passed in the Parliament. The ID cards will be issued to 16-year-old citizens free of charge. However, the cards will be issued if the local State Migration Service departments are provided with the necessary equipment. An ID card contains an electronic contactless chip with the recorded personal and biometric data of a holder, including the place of residence and marital status. Adding a digital signature, ID code and other information is technically possible but requires legislative regulation.
