Deputy Prosecutor General Davit Sakvarelidze has been dismissed by Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin and his post has been scrapped, according to an announcement on the website of the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) of Ukraine.
"The PGO has recently received numerous enquiries from Members of Parliament and requests regarding the combined post of the deputy prosecutor general and Odesa region prosecutor, which is occupied by Sakvarelidze, as it contravenes Articles 8 and 15 of the Law on the Public Prosecutor's Office. What is more, the validity of this position has become a subject of a lawsuit at Kyiv's district administrative court, filed by a Member of Parliament," the announcement said.
