On April 17, 2014, the pro-Russian militants captured Gorlivka, Volodymyr Rybak tried to remove the flag of so-called "DPR" off the city council building and to set the state flag of Ukraine. During this action the hero was killed.
"An extremely difficult task for us is to ensure that our flag would once again appear over Donetsk, Luhansk, over Simferopol and over Sevastopol," President Poroshenko said during a ceremony to raise Ukraine's state flag in Kyiv.
