The official opening ceremony will be attended by delegations from 193 member- states of the UN, its Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the head of the 71 st session,Permanent Representative of Fiji, Peter Thomson. The agenda includes 170 issues, it will address maintenance of peace and security, counter terrorism, racial discrimination and xenophobia, environmental protection and human rights.
The first major event in the schedule of the 71 th session will be a meeting on the problems of mass migration, which will take place on September 19. This meeting is held in the General Assembly for the first time, and its necessity is dictated by the situation in Europe and elsewhere.
