EU leaders condemned Russia for bombing civilians in the Syrian city of Aleppo, but faced resistance from Italy concerning the introduction of new sanctions against Moscow. It is reported by "Reuters". Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, whose country has extensive trade ties with Russia, said: restrictive measures, they say, should not be part of the strategy, because it will not force Moscow to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the situation in Syria. The agency also reported that in the final version of the resolution to be approved by the results of the summit, the wording on sanctions against Russian citizens and companies related to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad were removed . They agreed only on fuzzy warning that "the EU will consider all possible options if the bombing continue in Syria."
