EU cuts wheat imports from Ukraine threefold

According to official figures, Ukraine's wheat exports came to 1,382.7 thousand tonnes in November 2016, which is comparable to the amount recorded for the same period last year (1,380.4 thousand tonnes in November 2015). In general, Ukraine's wheat exports have increased by 7.7% over five months of the 2016/2017 marketing year and made up 9,618.5 thousand tonnes in contrast to 8,929.3 thousand tonnes recorded in July-November 2015/2016. India's share in Ukraine's wheat export structure continues to grow. In particular, 10% of Ukraine's total wheat export deliveries were sent to the Indian market during this period. Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea also remain the major importers of the Ukrainian wheat. According to UkrAgroConsult, a slowdown in Ukraine's wheat exports to EU countries can be explained by the absence of new duty-free export quotas and wheat procurement on the EU internal market.
