Ukrainian job market gradually waking up - poll

"Despite the difficult political, social and economic situation, the Ukrainian job market is gradually waking up. In H1 2015, the number of vacancies and CVs on hh.ua website grew by 5-10% every month, and competition level was stable – five applicants per job. This allows for saying that there is no sharp inflow of unemployed persons on the market and the crisis was not a reason for mass layoffs," HeadHunter Ukraine said in a press release on Tuesday. According to the poll, as before, on average it takes around six months to find work. However, the number of those looking for work for three-six months fell slightly, to 30%. In February, it was 34%. The number of those who found a job in less than a month doubled from 4% to 8%. Also, 13-14% find work within two months and the same number – in six-12 months. Almost one in ten applicants have been looking for work for over one year. Confidence in finding employment and the fall in revenues due to inflation has affected the salary expectations of Ukrainians. "[In the poll], 58% of respondents are not ready to cut their salary even if there were difficulties with searching for a new job. Six months ago their number was less than a half. One in five of the respondents would cut their salary by 5-10%, and one in ten – by 15-20%. Six months ago, the figures were one in four and one in six respectively. Few applicants are ready to give over 20-30%, and over 50% of their salaries to the employers. Three out of 100 respondents as before would agree to any salary proposed in the situation of long-term unemployment," the press release said. The hh.ua research center conducted the poll in August 2015. A total of 5,050 respondents from various regions in Ukraine took part in the poll.
