"Over the past day, illegal armed groups violated the ceasefire 36 times. The ATO forces responded to the enemy's activity firing 28 times using infantry weapons. One Ukrainian defender died as a result of the shelling. Another one was mortally wounded as a result of an explosion on an unknown explosive device. Two soldiers were injured," the ATO headquarters reported on its Facebook page on October 17 morning.
In the Donetsk sector, in the evening militants fired several times using grenade launchers and machine guns on the ATO forces positions near at the Butovka mine. Ukrainian servicemen responded to the enemy's fire. As a result of this confrontation, a serviceman of the ATO forces was wounded. Around 18:00, as a result of the shelling by militants near the village of Kamyanka, one Ukrainian soldier was killed. Also, on Monday in the area of Nevelske, another Ukrainian soldier was blown up and was mortally wounded on an unknown explosive device.
In the coastal area, militants thrice shelled the ATO forces positions on the outskirts of Vodiane using grenade launchers and machine guns, and once with mortars of 82-mm caliber. At about 18:00, they used 120-mm mortars near Pavlopil. Another Ukrainian soldier was wounded during the shelling. In addition, almost at midnight, militants shelled Ukrainian positions in the Novotroitske area using infantry fighting vehicle.
In the Luhansk sector, militants used small arms near Novoaleksandrivka and Popasna. Anti-tank grenade launchers and machine guns were fired by near the villages of Luhansk and Valuisk.
