President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on the celebration of the 80th birth anniversary of Vyacheslav Chornovil.

"The main purpose of the decree is to ensure the proper preparation and holding of events in December 2017 - March 2018 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian state and political figure, the Hero of Ukraine Vyacheslav Chornovil," the decree says.
In particular, the Government should provide an organization in Kyiv, as well as at Chornovil's homeland, other settlements connected with its activities, solemn and memorial events with the participation of representatives of state authorities, local authorities, the public, and scientists.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should provide assistance to foreign diplomatic establishments of Ukraine to organize events of the Ukrainian community abroad for the celebration of the 80th birth anniversary of Chornovil.
Recall that on Dec. 24, 2017, the leader of the People's Movement of Ukraine Chornovil would have turned 80 years old. He died in a car accident on the route "Boryspil - Zolotonosha" on March 25, 1999.
On January 21, 2014, the Boryspil inter-district court closed the case on the death of Chornovil, recognizing the accident as an accident.
