"We had a clear intention to return. The question was where exactly we would be able to send our volunteers to, and when the situation would stabilize so that volunteers could serve, without putting themselves at risk," Robertson said. The Peace Corps resumes its work only in the central and western Ukraine and is not going to work in the occupied Crimea and Donbas so far. Currently, the volunteers are coming in "small waves." Thirty volunteers out of more than two hundred, evacuated last year, have already returned. The new large group of 59 volunteers is expected to arrive in October. Another group will arrive early next year.
