"[I am] glad to see that Minister Stets agrees on press freedom and the need to correct the sanctions list," Pyatt said on Twitter. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on September 2 enacted a resolution of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the application of sanctions against Russia. The resolution on extending sanctions against Russia concerns over 400 individuals and 90 legal entities who are responsible for criminal actions against Ukraine. Subsequently, Poroshenko instructed the NSDC to remove BBC journalists from the list of persons subject to sanctions after outrage in the media. The BBC issued a statement describing the decision of the Ukrainian government as an attack on media freedom.
