"Together with society I demand that the former authorities should be brought to trial. We gave them the opportunity to bear responsibility via trial in absentia, even if they have fled. It is my clear task before the law enforcement and judicial systems," he said in an interview on Ukrainian TV channels on Sunday. "I'm not going to defend a single law enforcement agency that had to ensure an unbiased investigation into the murders in Maidan [winter 2013-2014] and into the responsibility of the former authorities," he said. Poroshenko said that former members of the authorities have been trying to disguise themselves by taking evidence with them, and destroying weapons and orders. "But this mustn't stop us from bringing them to account," he said. When asked whether the judges of today could be objective, Poroshenko said he wouldn't like to put labels on everybody. According to him, the true patriots of the judicial authorities should show themselves as decisive and incorruptible.
