It was just on December 14 1986 that construction of the sarcophagus over the destroyed fourth reactor of Chornobyl NPP was completed. The works lasted almost eight months after the explosion of the reactor. The aftermath of large-scale environmental disaster were eliminated first by firefighters and employees of the station, and later - military and civilian workers.
According to some reports, all in all over this period more than 600,000 people were involved in elimination of the aftermath of the accident. In Ukraine, more than 3 million people have been officially recognized victims of the Chornobyl disaster.
