Today Ukrainian surgeons to conduct unique operation

Today in Ukraine first ever operation to transplant a mechanical heart is conducted, which will help the patient survive waiting for transplantation of a donor organ. This was announced by director of "Heart Center" Borys Todurov. He noted that for the first time Ukrainian surgeons transplanted donor heart in 2001, and since then held only four such operations were conducted. Because of legal restrictions that do not allow people to dispose of their organs thousands of patients do not survive till transplantation of a living organ. Therefore surgeons have to implant to patients the mechanical heart. This appliance - turbine runs on electricity providing blood circulation in the body. Mechanical heart works for several years and allows a patient to survive till donor organ transplantion becomes possible informed Borys Todurov.
