In the Zhytomyr region, on the territory of the Polissya Nature Reserve, the area of the forest fire reduced to 5 hectares.
This is reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Service for Emergency Situations.
"As of 9:00, August 23, the area of fire in the Polissya Natural Reserve decreased to 5 hectares. There is still a low fire burning and a layer of peat with separate cells," the statement reads.
For the previous day, helicopter MI-8 threw down 10 tonnes of water deep inside the forest. Rescuers and foresters continue to work at the site. 142 workers of personnel and 22 units of machinery are involved in the fire elimination.There is no necessity in attracting aviation of Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine.
As reported, on August 20, in the Polissya Nature Reserve of Kopyschansky Forestry, in the 14th quarter, the forest territory started to burn at separate places on an area of about 120 hectares (of which 2 hectares of the ridge). At 21:00 on August 21, a fire was localized.
