Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Lilia Grinevich meets in Strasbourg with experts from the Council of Europe to clarify the language provisions of the recently enacted law on education.
This was reported in Twitter by Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe Dmytro Kuleba.
"We start the day of educational diplomacy with the meeting of Minister Grinevich with experts of the Council of Europe. We will talk about reform and language all day", - wrote Kuleba.
As it was reported, the Verkhovna Rada on September 5 voted for the Law of Ukraine "On Education", which, in particular, regulates the use of the Ukrainian language in the field of education. On September 25, it was signed by President Poroshenko.
It should be noted that the law ensures that children from minorities in Ukraine will continue to study their mother tonguein primary school, and starting from the secondary school they will begin to study in the state language. If the language of national minority belongs to the languages of the European Union, one or several subjects at school may be taught in this language .
At the same time, some countries that have a diaspora in Ukraine, protested about the article on education of children from minoritues in the Ukrainian language. The Government of Hungary, in particular, stated that it would block all further decisions of the European Union aimed at bringing the EU closer to Ukraine through the law on education.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent the Law "On Education" for examination to the Venice Commission.
