Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has said the State Migration Service has denied a refugee status to former president of Georgia, ex-head of Odesa Regional Administration, Leader of New Forces Movement party Mikheil Saakashvili.
"I have news. Earlier I used to say that Saakashvili has a status that makes it impossible for him to be deported or extradited. Now the State Migration Service has denied him the status of a refugee, which he requested, and Mr. Saakashvili, as always, failed to challenge this decision in court," Lutsenko told journalists in Kyiv on October 24.
Thus, "there are no special circumstances" that could prevent Saakashvili from being deported or extradited, the prosecutor general said. "And the State Migration Service knows this for sure," Lutsenko added.
Recall: Saakashvili on September 10 entered the territory of Ukraine without passing border control.
In July, Mikheil Saakashvili lost his Ukrainian citizenship by the decree of the President of Ukraine. The validity of his passport of a citizen of Ukraine after the loss of citizenship is cancelled.
