World Humanitarian Summit, in which President Petro Poroshenko takes part opened today in Istanbul. The President will speak at the plenary session of the summit and will attend at the high-level leaders' roundtable "Political Leadership to Prevent and End Conflicts" in Istanbul.
The visit also includes bilateral meetings of the President of Ukraine with heads of State and Governments participating in the Summit. Preparation of the Summit, which will be the first event of this nature, lasted three years under the UN auspices. The purpose of the meeting is to determine the specific steps to improve the humanitarian response to the current challenges, particularly those caused by conflict, and to develop appropriate mechanisms to prevent new humanitarian problems.
